The Purpose of Experience When asking someone what the purpose of going to college is they may respond in a variety of different ways. To me the purpose of going to college is of course to pursue the highest education possible in an attempt to stand out in an oversaturated job market. However, I also think college is an excellent tool that can help me find more out about myself and who I am on my own. College can also be great preparation for adult life where your responsibilities increase and your time management is essential. I think all of the previously mentioned “purposes” are all equally important and valid reasons for why college is important to any one individual. When focusing on a smaller topic like this class, I think my goals are easier to identify than when looking at college. In this class my goal is to apply myself to the fullest extent possible even if that means I fail miserably. I want to leave the classroom everyday and go to bed every night knowing that I gave i

World of change If I had to implement one change to the world in order to make it a better place I would make basic healthcare accessible to everyone. The idea that there are basic human rights that so many people are too unlucky to have access too is heartbreaking. As someone who has a diabetic sister, I cannot even imagine living life with no health insurance. The bleak reality is that so many diabetics lose their life because they cannot afford the medical supplies they need to simply exist, all because of corporate greed. Obviously this is not just applicable to diabetics but people suffering with health complications all over the world. It is inexcusable that we allow so many people to suffer until they die because we have not implemented a system to provide adequate healthcare to all. While there are so many important world issues that I could choose to fix, I feel that unaccessible healthcare is one of the worlds greatest tragedies.  (Bianco How Becoming a Doctor Works 2023

The Versatility of Seafood Lobster mac and cheese is easily one of my favorite dishes to eat, no matter the occasion. I have always loved seafood and its versatility, there are so many different ways you can prepare and serve fish that are completely different. Eventually when I decided to try lobster infused in my mac and cheese it changed my life. Still every time I eat regular mac and cheese I struggle knowing it could be so much better with some additional seafood in the symphony. However this dish isn’t just my favorite for how it tastes, I also appreciate how it forced me to try new food combinations. All because of this one dish I have found many other combinations that I enjoy greatly. (Food Network Lobster Mac and Cheese 2009)

Path to Identity Identity is sort of an abstract feeling of self that most everyone can connect to a certain trait or passion. As a child you don’t exactly have a sense of identity, in fact most people don’t develop their own identity until their teenage years. As I grew up I started to find my own personal interests that slowly became a part of who I am. I started to focus more on drumming and expanding my musical knowledge as much as I could. Listening to as much music as I could which included rap, afro cuban jazz, funk, shoegaze and much more. Growing up drumming helped me realize an important part of my identity, music!   Overcoming the Mountain Multiple times throughout life, you are faced with overwhelming challenges that can be incredibly difficult to overcome. For me I don’t see specific events or periods of my life where I had to overcome a challenge. I prefer to see the course of my entire life as one gigantic mountain that I climb up every single day. Sometimes the trail is easy and sometimes the trail is rugged, but I always make it to the next day. While there are certainly challenges I have to face that make trekking the mountain more difficult I prefer to look at it broadly. This way there is no such thing as a completed product or process, only one constant project that I am always working towards improving. Some of the things I try to learn and improve are my own physical health, mental health, emotional intelligence, and general productivity. While the process of moving up the impossibly tall mountain of life is brutal and unforgiving, it is one of the most rewarding experiences humans

It Was a Good Day The idea of a perfect day sparks a different image to each individual, but what is a perfect day to me? To start it off, I would like to wake up super early and head down to the beach with my friends and some surfboards. There we will cook breakfast in the back of a truck and then surf for about two and half hours. When we get back we will chill out, eat some food, and play video games. Then when we feel rested we will go skate and grab some dinner once it gets dark. From there I would like to go home to watch a movie or play some video games, to close out a perfect day.                                                                   (Luis MP A tribute to the beach 2023)

Hometown Breakdown My hometown is Thousand Oaks, a city about 35 minutes away from Northridge where I have lived for about nine years. Living here is almost what I consider paradise because of the exceptional weather, beach proximity, and fantastic community. I moved here from Camarillo when I was in fourth grade, and I still live at home with my parents. I really love Thousand Oaks and while I would love to travel, I see myself living here in the future if affordable. It’s also well known as one of the safest cities in America to live in. Overall my hometown is somewhere I greatly enjoy living.                                                        (Rice Thousand Oaks Neighborhoods 2023)

Dominic Fike’s Magical Soundscape One of my all time favorite musical artists is a guitarist out of Florida named Dominic Fike. He makes mostly alternative and pop music that focuses on his guitar skills and intricate production. I personally enjoy his humble approach to making music, coming from deep poverty in Napes, Florida. His human personality and relatable lyrics make him really easy to listen to as I feel very connected to the music. Another space within his music that I especially enjoy are his live performances, which I listen to often. Dominic Fike has a unique sound that feels comfortable for me to grab onto and has been a huge influence on my music taste since I found him. (Caruso Who Is Dominic Fike?   An Adults Influence My parents are the two most influential people in my life, for good reason. As a musician that learned from my dad, there are a lot of common things that repeat themselves over the years. I was taught how important consistent practice is for consistent progress and that has translated to my everyday life. Another trait that I got from my mom was an overwhelming amount of empathy that she emphasized on when growing up. Unfortunately, I also picked up her procrastination issues which has proven to be a problem for me throughout my life. While I see some negative traits that I’ve inherited from my parents I also see many of their good qualities that I am happy to see in myself.   A 10 Year Transformation We all know how it feels to wonder where you will be in the future, whether you are thinking about a week from now or 30 years from now. As I begin my transition into the start of  adult life I constantly worry and wonder about what my future holds for me. However, if I had to give a hopeful guess I would see myself working in the music industry as a sound engineer. In 10 years at 28 I will hopefully have lived a little and learned a lot. I see myself traveling the world for my job and meeting new people constantly, forming connections that last longer than just 10 years. Turning wherever I find myself living into my home, finding community in every corner of the world. But for now all I know is in 10 years I will still be me, and no matter where I end up or what job I have I will always be me.
